PERSONA DESCRIPTION

Height/Weight: 5'3", 117 lbs.
Physical Description: Marabet looks exactly like her father. She has
big blue eyes that seem to overwhelm the rest of her features—her nose
is tiny, her eyebrows thin, and her mouth small. Her hair is a dark
brown, almost black, and it falls to just beyond her shoulder blades
in thick waves. As a child she had pale, perfect skin, and there were
always violet shadows under her eyes. Marabet had very dramatic
coloring, to say in the least, but turns aboard the Waverunner have
given her a constant tan, after a short adjustment period of painful
sunburn. Marabet is slender and flexible, which is useful for fitting
into small places or crawling around the ship where the adults can't
reach. She has very long fingers and knobby elbows, which she
considers her shortcomings. She's just beginning to develop into a
woman, which she secretly finds exciting, although she'd never tell.

Style of dress: Marabet dresses like her mother—trousers and shirts.
Her best outfit is a pair of loose pants and a tunic in an orange-red,
which is her favorite color. Otherwise she makes do with shabby,
patched pants and button down shirts. She's much like Chenna in that
respect—she's not fussy about her clothing at all. Perhaps if she'd
grown up around boys she would be, but luckily Marabet was spared that
awkwardness. As for her hair, Marabet wears it tucked up under a boy's
cap she stole, or braided, if it's a particularly windy day.

Habits/Hobbies: When she was eight she learned how to whistle, and she
hasn't stopped since. Marabet's always been mature for her age, so she
doesn't have any nasty habits, other than a slight tendency to raise
her eyebrows whenever someone says something she disapproves of.
Marabet never really had the chance to develop any hobbies outside the
Seacraft. Her father attempted to teach her to carve, but like her
mother, Marabet quickly lost patience with having cut up fingers.

Pets: Zale, bronze firelizard, Impressed when she was 12
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Personality: Marabet is confident. There's no other word for it. She
has a biting wit when she wants to be sarcastic, but mostly
self-assurance exudes from her as though she was emitting it from her
pores. Having basically grown up onboard the Waverunner, she is secure
in her place on the ship and amongst the crew. This easy approval has
given her a sense of belonging and thus her confident air. She's very
mature for her age, as well, often speaking to adults as though she
were their own age. As for teenagers her own age, Marabet is calm,
cool and collected when aboard ship—she has even managed to intimidate
newcomers, simply because of her casual air and her tendency to flaunt
how easily she fits in on the Waverunner. On the other hand, when on
land during the Waverunner's time in port, Marabet is
uncomfortable—and it shows. She fidgets and rocks back and forth,
avoiding the gaze of anyone she doesn't know. She doesn't have her
history to back her up, and with her sense of security lost, Marabet
transforms into an awkward teenager. Thankfully, she's usually at sea
and doesn't have that problem.
Marabet is quite serious about her craft—she wants to be a captain one
day, although a boatswain, like her mother, would also do—so she works
hard at her tasks. Her drive and focus have been praised by many,
especially the older members of the crew, another small thing Marabet
can't help but show off from time to time.

Background/history: Marabet is the first and only child of Chenna and
Pagrad. She was born almost immediately after their marriage, and from
the moment of her birth she was adored by both mother and father.
Marabet was named after her late grandmother on her father's side, and
her mother's younger sister, who passed away as a child.
Marabet can hardly remember her early childhood while her mother was
home. After Chenna left to take up her craft again, when the girl was
three, Marabet's father, Pagrad, raised her. Her youngest years were
colored by the homecomings of her mother, bringing gifts and stories
of the sea and the mother's love Marabet craved. From the earliest
Marabet can remember, she wanted to be like Chenna and sail on a ship,
too. Her father humored these daydreams by carving her toy ships, but
tried to teach her some woodworking in an effort to sway her thoughts
to a craft a bit closer to home. However, Marabet was adamant about
her plans to follow in her mother's footsteps.
As soon as she turned seven, the begging and pleading began. Marabet
wanted to live with her mother on the ship. Chenna hardly saw her
daughter and so gave in easily, saying that on her eighth birthday
Marabet could join the crew of the Waverunner—unofficially, of course.
Pagrad flew into a rage at the idea of both his wife and child leaving
him for long stretches of time, but it was clear to both her parents
that Marabet would have to join the Waverunner soon or she'd resort to
stowing away as her mother did as a child. Thus, Pagrad gave in, and
Marabet spent the rest of her seventh turn preparing for life on board
the Waverunner, daydreaming and fantasizing about her life as a
sailor.
Marabet's first day aboard ship was nothing less than a dream come
true. She charmed half the crew with her precocity and adoration of
the ocean, although the captain of the ship, Domoyea, regarded her
with amused tolerance and not much more. She scrambled about, found
all the hiding places within hours, and settled into her mother's
cabin, her small satchel hardly taking up any room. Marabet was there
to stay.
By the age of ten Marabet's willingness to work and her nimble, agile
body were coming in handy. She scrambled up masts to fix rigging;
squished into small places when need be and used her tiny hands with
their long fingers to dig into places an adult's hands would not. She
was earning her keep and enjoying herself, while simultaneously
acquiring an apprenticeship of sorts, although she never formally was
given the rank.
Visits home were at first awkward and stilted. Marabet grew away from
her father as the turns went by, and although she was Pagrad in
miniature as far as appearance was concerned, she mimicked Chenna in
every other way—mannerisms, speech pattern and aspirations. Marabet
was also becoming more tomboyish as the turns passed, finding her
ragged trousers and loose shirts more comfortable than the girls'
dresses she'd worn while Pagrad was caring for her. Her father was
dismayed at the loss of his little girl, but couldn't help but be
proud at Marabet's aptitude for sailing.
At eleven Marabet was formally apprenticed, as it wouldn't be fair to
keep her working much longer without acknowledging that she was
learning. Thrilled, the young girl worked even harder, determined to
achieve journeymanship as soon as possible. Secretly, Marabet wanted
nothing more than to take over her mother's position in "a few turns",
when Chenna grew too old…a dream that was vague and fuzzy in the way
that all young girls' dreams are, with her mother nowhere near
retirement or, Faranth forbid, death.
When Marabet was twelve, the Waverunner made a pit stop on the shores
near Keroon Hold. They'd been at sea for a longer time than usual, and
Marabet was eager to stretch her legs and run around on the beach. She
wandered far beyond the port to the barren part of the beach, and
flopped onto the sand, only to sit up when she heard a strange
chittering sound. There were a few firelizards hatching from their
eggs, only one left whole. Shaking with excitement, Marabet grabbed
the last egg and ran haphazardly back to the ship. An hour later the
crew watched with bated breath as Marabet's little bronze hatched, and
she hastily stuffed it with strips of raw meat. Zale is now two years
old and has reached adult size—he's a bit small for a bronze flit, but
he fits snugly on Marabet's shoulder, and likes to nibble at her hair.
He's been well trained, since all the adults insisted upon it (and
rightly so), and delivers messages home for everyone on board,
especially Chenna.
Marabet's lifestyle on the ship has not allowed for much of the usual
"only-child syndrome". Marabet doesn't wish she had siblings, and is
unaware of the fact that her mother has miscarried twice since
returning to the Seacraft. Marabet considers the crew her family, her
father a sort of outside relative and the ocean her home—she has no
need for little brothers or sisters, who sound annoying, judging by
the stories she's heard.
Now at fourteen Marabet has lived on the Waverunner for seven turns in
a row, besides her brief visits home. She's the collective daughter of
the crew, for the most part, as they have watched her grow from a
boisterous young girl to a steady young woman with great promise and
played a crucial part in her upbringing and development. Marabet
expects to remain on the Waverunner for the rest of her life, no
questions asked. Her senior apprenticeship was awarded to her a turn
ago, at thirteen, and has only prompted Marabet to push harder at her
craft. Thankfully, it all comes easily to her, and she spends her free
time with the younger members of the crew.
