PERSONA DESCRIPTION
Height/Weight: 5'-0" / 100 lbs
Physical Description:
Laen is petite. That's the polite way to put it, anyway. In
reality, she's tiny. She's short, thin, and fine boned, and much to
her dismay, has no shape or curves to speak of. Even so, she is a
striking girl. Her shoulder-length hair is a very dark brown, and
straight. When she's working, she ties it back, but otherwise she
likes to leave it down, and is trying to grow it longer. She has her
mother's gray eyes, and nice, if unremarkable, facial features. Her
overall appearance is one of fragility, and she is that- she's had
several broken bones over the Turns due to her light bone structure.
She personally doesn't consider herself attractive, but several boys
have disagreed with her about that- she is a pretty girl in a very
normal way, not drop-dead gorgeous like she'd like to be.
Style of dress: A skirt and simple blouse, or trousers. She wears
just about anything, but prefers earthy tones, like brown or green.
Habits/Hobbies: When Laen's not working, she tends to like to spend
time alone. With such a huge family growing up, she relishes the
alone-time she can now enjoy.

Personality:
Laen has a quiet charm about her. She is very self-assured about her
work, but in other areas of her life, she has a hard time feeling
confident. She always worries about what she says, and as a result,
is quiet a lot of the time. For the most part, she's an easy person
to get along with once she comes out of her shell; she's kind to a
fault, and is one of those people who will always sacrifice themselves
for others, no matter how many problems it causes. She gets along
well with children, which is why she intends on specializing in
pediatrics when she is actually allowed to specialize.
Background/history:
Laen is the third child of Cibryen Weyr's midwife, Maera. As the
oldest girl, she does not remember a time when she wasn't helping to
take care of her younger siblings; all 13 of them. She knows that she
has siblings on her father's side, as well, but she hasn't spent as
much time with them. When she was much younger, Laen had a big
problem dealing with the fact that there were so many other demands on
her mother's attention. For a while when she was about seven, she
became an absolute terror, to the point where the harpers told her
mother she wasn't going to be allowed back to class if she couldn't
behave. Maera's solution was to have Laen become her "Junior
assistant" and follow her around, helping out in the little ways she
could. It did wonders to make the girl feel important and noticed in
her huge household. She'd always been quieter than her rambunctious
brothers, and it was easy for the quiet one to get lost in the fray-
for that same reason, Laen sees a lot of herself in her younger
brother, Bain.
Soon what started as a way to have her mother notice her became a
genuine interest; Laen found herself drawn to midwifery, and healer
work in general. Instead of just following her mother around, she
took to hanging around at the healers as well, learning what she could
when she wasn't told to get out of the way of the people doing the
actual work. She begged to be apprenticed, but everyone was firm in
that she had to wait until the apprenticing age of twelve. On her
twelfth birthday, she was formally apprenticed to the healers. She
still followed her mother on her rounds (as approved by the healers),
but she also had additional healer duties, and she relished it.
Over the next several Turns she learned very quickly, and by the time
she was sixteen, it was suggested that she go to Healer Hall to
receive additional training. She spent two turns there. It was
strange for her, not being around her siblings, and as a result, she
tended to spend a lot of time with the younger patients- she got very
good with children, and plans on making that her specialty when she
declares as a journeyman, if she ever walks the tables.
Recently she returned to Cibryen Weyr to work in the infirmary again.
