PERSONA DESCRIPTION
Height/Weight: 6'2 and 230 pounds.
Physical Description: T'hae is the kind of man who, toughened by the rigors of caring for a dragon and flying Threadfall, would be given second or third glances in a Hold, but not in a Weyr. He has medium brown skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair kept short that curls around his head and is beginning to prematurely silver. His face is broad and pleasant, and a smile comes easily to it and looks natural on him, despite that he usually keeps himself looking stern. He is fairly tall and once had a spare build that had turned to muscle from dragonriding- unfortunately, he's been letting himself go just a bit ever since the dragon plague, and his muscle is turning a bit closer to fat than he would have liked or tolerated two Turns ago.
Style of dress: Practical clothes that fit well, tend to be well-worn, and always in shades of blue and brown.
Habits:
Hobbies: Reading old records,
Pets: None
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Personality: T'hae is sometimes described as more hidebound than a wherry by all but his close friends. T'hae is rather a stickler for rules and traditions, at least when it comes to do with dragonriding and the Weyr. You might as well stick to what's been proven best, he says. That isn't to say that he is entirely against new and innovative techniques, because he isn't- he just wants to see them tested in practice and drills, first, before they have to be put into routine use.
But the formal and rank-consciousness found during practice and drills and Threadfall fades away (to a certain extent) when he is on his own. After work is done, T'hae is always ready to spend time listening to someone who needs him, or relaxing with friends, or sharing a drink with his wingmates. T'hae has no burning desire to be the center of the gathering- he'd rather hang around on the edges and enjoy it- but he has been known to organize events. Those who see him as a strict and hidebound disciplinarian are often surprised when he shows up at a dragonpoker gathering bearing gifts of wine and ale or when he organizes some kind of get-together.
Background/history: Born to a brownrider father and a weaver mother, Thaemyr was fostered early on. His older foster brother, Kranos, picked on his younger brother and teased him mercilessly for being different. The youngster was small and not very strong, unlike his older brother, and always lost in roughhousing and games. He didn't mind terribly, though, because he liked learning, and was proud that unlike his older brother, he was quite good in Harper classes. He was never close to his wilder sister Yvesa, but there was no competition or resentment between them, either. When Kranos was Searched and Impressed a bronze, he never let Thaemyr forget it, taunting his younger fosterbrother to "look at the glory you won't ever get".
Learning quite early on that he didn't fit in with the other weyrbrats, who often teased him, Thaemyr found solace in the records rooms of the Weyr. He was awkward around others of his own age and preferred the company of his elders. He was Searched by a greenpair when he was 14 and he impressed at his first Hatching to bronze Galath, which was a surprise to a fair number of people, including Thaemyr- now T'hae- himself! He'd never gotten into romantic encounters, since he wasn't popular among the weyrbrats, and as such hadn't really considered his own sexuality. Besides, he wasn't a leader, or outgoing, or popular. He was just the guy who studied old draconic trivia. But a bronzerider T'hae now was. Unprepared for the additional demands of his rank, he floundered about for the first few months on everything but the academics, and the pair never hit their stride as a pair until after the first *betweening*. Their classmates- some of whom had never liked T'hae as weyrbrats- didn't go out of their way to make his adjustments easier.
As a result of this difficult weyrlinghood, T'hae became extremely conscious of rank and position, using the professional structure of the Weyr as an excuse to keep himself remote. He didn't lord his new place in the Weyr over some of those who had been unkind before. Instead, he asked only for the respect his rank gave him, and gave the respect owed by rank and position to everyone else, whether it was a greenrider or his Wingleader or the Headwoman. This, combined with his reserve around people, has lead to the uptight and hidebound reputation he still hasn't lost. He truly believes that the best way for the Wings to act is thoroughly professional, with no room for personal feelings. Despite his pride in being a bronzerider and a wingrider, T'hae found himself with a desire to do more for his Weyr, and apprenticed as a dragonhealer at age 19.
Part of his dislike of personal lives carrying over into riding lives is also from his history. T'hae has loved in his time, and has lost both times. Belabi, a greenrider, was his first real relationship at age 20, and they were together almost 2 turns. However, she kept letting their personal issues affect her when she flew, and got very badly scored in a Threadfall the day after a bad fight of theirs. Her green betweened, and Belabi followed her partner into death. Iyeba, a greenrider in his wing, came into his life when he was 32. Unlike Belabi, she never let their personal disagreements carry over into their professional life. They fell very deeply in love and the Holdbred Iyeba wanted them to have a commitment ceremony anyways to affirm this. T'hae was willing. However, the plague had different plans, and took Iyeba's life. Shortly after that, Galath was scored very badly in a Threadfall and took almost a Turn to regain full mobility.
T'hae has only one biological child. His second won mating flight lead to the greenrider becoming pregnant. She decided to keep the child and so Baramyr was born. He was fostered, of course. T'hae was barely 17, had the responsibilities of a dragonrider, and truth be told was a bit nervous about the idea of being a father. He was determined to not let his child grow up without any contact, however, and thus made time to visit Baramyr every now and then. As Baramyr (and his foster-sister Briara, who went everywhere with Baramyr) grew older, T'hae became more comfortable about them. It was nice to have help with Galath, and he genuinely liked the bright youngsters, both of whom he views as his own and is very proud of.
T'hae used the time when Galath was recovering to pursue more advancement in his dragonhealer work. However, even as he learned more professionally, he withdrew personally, becoming a near-stranger to social events around the Weyr and not seeking others out, instead letting them come to him. Since these events, T'hae has been depressed on and off and has withdrawn from other people, letting rank and position keep everyone away from him. Only now is he starting to let himself open up to other people again.
DRAGON INFORMATION
Name: Galath
Color: Bronze
Weyr/Age Impressed: Cibryen/15
Date Hatched/Sire/Dam: Gold Kriyeth/Bronze Xianith - 9.14.2523
Size/Wingspan: 36 feet/55 feet
Physical Description: Were Galath a runner, he would be of an elegant racing line rather then a workhorse built for sheer power, unlike many bronzes. Galath is not bulky, but built very streamlined, without the barrel-chested appearance of some bronzes. His color is a rich antique bronze, and he has been complimented and called noble several times. He is lean and with the muscle to get things done. Like almost every dragon, he has Threadscore marks on his body. The worst is his where his right wing meets his body, marred by the scars of an accident shortly after the plague. Galath has since recovered, although it took time to regain full mobility.
Personality: Galath is a noble dragon, filled with his own importance. He is _bronze_ and all should know that and treat him with the respect due him, and this attitude can lead to him being seen as arrogant. This is tempered by the fact that he is a skilled flyer and thus deserves it, to an extent. Galath isn't patient, but is very tolerant and easily amused. He has an affection for younger dragons and new dragons in particular and loves welcoming them to his wing. He believes everyone should work their hardest and is not tolerant of laziness or incompetence. In Threadfall, Galath is very focused and intensely driven. He loves to fly and fight and flame, and is always disappointed when Fall ends, even if he's tired. He loves flights and chases quite often.
