Mentors

We have established a mentor program to help new members settle in. All new members will be assigned a mentor. This isn't to restrict your creativity, but to simply help you get settled in and feel comfortable in the club. We are a little on the big side, so its nice to have a friend who can show you the ropes. :) If you're already an accomplished roleplayer, then you probably won't be on mentorship long...so have no fear. If you have any questions about the mentorship program, please email the bod with your concerns.

All mentees are on moderated status on the RP list. Their mentor must approve their RPs before they are sent to the list. Initially, mentees may post unmoderated on the Redfruit list, but if any RPs are posted there, then the mentee will be moderated on all lists. Mentors check posts for spelling, grammar, canon, and consistency errors. As a writing club, good writing is our focus, and if you can't manage a functional level of writing ability, we'll have to ask you to leave.

Releasing of mentees is the decision of the mentor, but the mentee may appeal to the Board of Directors if they think they are being held unnecessarily. The BoD can of course override this decision. Mentees can email the BoD with any concerns about their mentor at any time.

The head mentor is responsible for keeping track of who's got who, how long mentees have been on, etc.

Mentors not only work on post with their mentees, they show them the ropes of the club, help them come up with plots, and get them introduced around the club if needed. They are also responsible for catching their mentees up on the current weyr plots, so they won't feel lost. Mentors are basically a new member's liaison with the rest of the club, to help them fit in and feel comfortable.

Mentorship will last approximately three months, with at least one check-up at 1 1/2 months. If you have not improved enough to be allowed off mentorship after three months, we may ask you to leave. This is so that you can spend your efforts elsewhere. It's not because we don't like you, but at Cibryen, we have fairly decent standards, and if you can't meet those basic standards after three months of one-on-one mentorship, perhaps you'd be happier in a less strict weyr.

A member may be placed on mentorship at any time if they consistently have problems with spelling, grammar, canon, and consistency, and once that happens, the same rules apply as before, three months maximum.
