Marks Reward System

Disciplinary Actions

Last updated: 05.08.2005

Disclaimer: This is an experiment in progress. We may alter, raise, or lower requirements and rewards in the future, depending on how the system works. Beginning March 1, 2004, we will begin enforcing ALL requirements. We invite the input of our members, and would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

All ranking characters have requirements that MUST be maintained, or the character will be revoked or demoted. This is to ensure that if someone needs the wingleader of their wing, they can actually be assured that person will be available to RP with.

Requirements can only be met by making substantial posts. Sorry, redfruits and one-liners don't count. A post must be at least a good two paragraphs long, with at least four complete sentences per paragraph. If you make two posts of one paragraph each, we may consider accepting that. Just talk to the BoD, and we'll work it out. We aren't tyrants, we just want you to post! If you can't keep up a rank, let someone who can have a shot at it. Also, in order to meet requirements for a particular character, the posts must be made WITH that character. For a post to qualify, it must include proper tags (Location tag, date, title) and there MUST be a signature block that includes the character's names, and the owner's name.

If your persona qualifies as several different persona levels, only the highest requirements apply. For example: a bronze Weyrleader counts as a Weyrleader, a Wingleader, and a bronzerider. Only the Weyrleader requirements must be met. Individual ranking requirements are cumulative, however. If you have four Level One characters, you must meet the requirements for each persona.

Searchriders are now no longer a ranking character, but are still a "special circumstances" character. Each member may have one, and only one, Searchrider.

So I have all these requirements? Why should I bother with ranking characters anyway? Because you will be able to direct the happenings of this weyr. By taking on a ranker, you will be included in RPs that affect the whole weyr. Ranking characters have certain privileges (well, level three and up, anyway) that you will enjoy. You will be a known person, a trusted person. People will seek you out for RP. Someone who has a high ranking character and starts many RPs is more likely to be voted onto the Board of Directors. Don't have an eye for leadership? Don't take on a ranker. As the owner of a ranking character, you are expected to help lead the weyr. Ranking characters build the framework for the lowly ones to work with. Plus, we have all sorts of exciting rewards. Playing your ranking character is a perfect way to earn higher rank, gold firelizards, even one of those coveted gold dragons through the aquisition of marks. Marks are spent on such things as ranking characters, firelizards, or even a reprieve from posting requirements.

People who consistently exceed their requirements by a substantial amount will be nominated for our "Hall of Fame". A prominent link on the from page will take you to a special page of honor for those who have substantially exceeded their requirements (ALL requirements, not just ranking ones) will be displayed. Each month, someone will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The biggest reward, however, should be that you have EARNED your character. No one handed it to you just because they liked you, you actually worked for it. You're not just playing the bare minimum you can to stay in the club. You're going above and beyond your average Joe, and making yourself into someone that people recognize. Think you can handle that? Well then, let's go over each individual level of character:

Level Five

All characters not listed below are considered to be level five.

Requirements: None

Level Four

NOTE: Bronze weyrlings are Level Three characters, while gold weyrlings are Level Two characters

Requirements: 5 posts per month

Level Three

The supporting people that make the jobs of level one and two characters possible. They are the bronzeriders, goldriders, wingseconds, and gold or bronze weyrlings. These aren't necessarily "high ranking people", but to have them you are required to post.

Requirements: 6 posts per month

Level Two

These characters are wingleaders and weyrlingmaster assistants. These characters provide very important supporting roles to the running of the weyr, and need to maintain their positions. Any given wingleader will have up to 30 wingriders and two wingseconds looking to them for guidance.

Requirements: 7 posts per month

Level One

The highest ranking personae, and include the entire Weyrleader team, Master crafters, the Mastercrafter of a craft, Lord and Lady Holders, Headwomen(men), HADs, and the Weyrlingmaster. They also have the highest requirements, because they are vital to the running of the weyr, so they're needed more often. People holding these positions are expected to maintain their ranks, and exceed requirements at every possible opportunity.

Requirements: 10 posts per month

Disciplinary Actions

Okay, so what's the point of having reqs if we don't enforce them? How can we enforce them if we have no consequences? Its the fact of Fandom life that people like to create characters and get rank without having to work for them or maintain them. Some of Cibryen's leadership has been guilty of this in the past, and we intend to see that it doens't happen again. ALL members are required to adhere to the requirements. If you don't have time, maybe Cibryen's not right for you.

We're not tyrants, and stuff happens. Obviously, if you go on extended LOA, your requirements are suspended for a time. You can also purchase reprieves by spending marks. If you abuse either, however, you will lose the ranker for not meeting your requirements. If you go on LOA every single month for six months, you will lose your ranker. Every year, you start with a clean slate.

Three strikes and yer out!

First offense: Member warned by BoD
Second offense: Member placed on moderated status
Third Offense: Demotion of persona, or loss of persona if demotion is not possible (ie, a non-ranking character not meeting base monthly requirements)

If you consistently do not meet your requirements, and ignore repeated warnings from the BoD, you will be removed from the list and your characters adopted out or deleted. If you don't have the time or inclination to play at Cibryen, don't apply. We are here to write, and we expect you to do so as well.

Marks System

We are currently planning on scrapping the marks system in favor of a less confusing reward system. Please check the forum discussion to give your input on the new system.

NOTE: In order to acquire a feline, canine or firelizard, you must have a plausible explanation as to the acquisition of said pet, and POST the acquisition. For firelizards, there MUST be an extant clutch with BoD approval.

How do you acquire marks?: You receive 1 mark for every ranking persona whose requirements you meet per month. Example: You have three personae and you meet their requirements (2 threads/month); you gain 3 marks.

Bonus Marks: If you have a crafter, and actively roleplay your craft, you will be eligible for an additional 1 mark per month in "profit" from trades. This bonus applies as long as you actively roleplay your craft. Simply stating you are a crafter is NOT enough. Abusing the crafter bonus will cause you to lose it. No roleplaying only when you want extra marks.

Hold-based persona also qualify for an special bonus. If you have a hold-based persona, you will qualify for a 1 mark per month after you have been established there for at least two months. Once you have been meeting your requirements at a hold for at least two months consecutively, you will receive your marks retroactively, at the end of your second month. If your holder leaves the hold for the weyr, you lose the bonus.

Okay, so now that we've confused you completely, here's an example:

Peter is a Holder. He is fourteen, and for his first two months of play, his player only gains the 1 mark per month for meeting Peter's requirements. After two months, Peter's player gains 2 marks in retroactive bonuses, and then 1 mark for Peter every month afterward.

Peter is then Apprenticed to the Smithcraft. Just because he lives at the Hold and is a crafter, he doesn't get both bonuses--now a crafter, Apprentice Peter gets the crafter's 1 mark bonus per month, in addition to meeting the regular requirements.

In a sudden surprise Peter is then Searched by a Cibryen Searchdragon! Peter's player decides to send him to the Weyr to Stand as a Candidate--and as soon as he leaves his hold, he loses his holder bonus. If Peter actively roleplays his craft while a candidate, he will gain his crafter bonus. If he does not, he will not qualify for it.

Dragonriders never qualify for bonuses, no matter what they do as hobbies, or where they are stationed or living. Dragonriding consumes a rider's life, and anything else he does is simply a hobby. The dragons, after all, ARE the bonus!

And finally, if you qualify for the Hall of Fame in a given month, you will receive an additional 1 mark on top of whatever other bonuses you may be receiving! Go ahead, pat yourself on the back. You earned it.

How do you use marks?: When you choose to use one of your marks, you MUST e-mail the BoD with how you are spending it. You must also post your spending-of-the-mark list on the main mailing list, unless it is a “reprieve” purchase.
