These are the rules and regulations for Cibryen Weyr. These are non-negotiable, and may be changed/added to without notice (we will try to let you know though). We'll do our best to post the changes here, but we are human, and can forget or get really busy. They have been created to protect your roleplaying experience, and that of others. We know they're long, but they're a necessary evil. If you don't have the time or inclination to read the rules thoroughly, you will not be welcome at Cibryen Weyr. We know there's a lot, but we have reasons for every one, and we're more than happy to explain them if you have questions.

Cibryen's Rules

  1. Neither Ruatha Hold, Benden Weyr nor Hold exist in our timeline.  Cibryen was established in the place of Benden.  The three holds beholden to Cibryen Weyr are Roaring Cliffs, Cibryen, and Rakyw.
  2. Roleplaying at Cibryen is primarily via our email list, but you are welcome to RP in any other medium, thanks to the recent relaxation of Anne's Fanfiction rules. We also have a members-only archive.
  3. There are only five basic dragon colors: gold, bronze, brown, blue and green. There are no black, purple, red or evil dragons allowed at Cibryen. No sport dragons either. The basic five colors of dragons are all that will be permitted.
  4. Golds Impress to women, bronzes Impress to men, end of story.
  5. There is no magic, ESP, clairvoyance, witches etc., only the empathic bonding between rider and dragon exists and the very rare ability to Hear All Dragons (HAD). No crossover characters, either.
  6. AIVAS was not discovered, so Thread still falls on Pern and the Holderfolk still rely on dragons and their riders to keep Thread out of the sky.  Which is very good for us. *g* There were no Long Intervals.
  7. Dragon names always end in "th" Fire lizards and other pets *never* end in "th"
  8. No joke names such as Death or Puffeth, and we reserve the right to refuse any name based on another fandom.
  9. All new personas must be submitted for approval, including NPCs.

  10. Leave of Absence (LOA): If you are going to be away from your computer for more than a week, you must post a LOA notice to the list. That lets the BoD and anyone you might be posting with that you can't reply. If you are going on an extended LOA (two weeks or more), you may want to notify the BoD so we can set you on no mail or digest so that your inbox doesn't overflow and start bouncing. If you are leaving for more than a month, please consider temporarily having your characters step down from any ranking positions. By having a high rank, people expect you to post, and if you can't maintain your posting minimums, its not fair to those who rely on your ranking character. If you leave for more than two months without announcing LOA, you risk expulsion from the club due to not meeting your requirements. Do not post a LOA notice if you are only leaving for the weekend, or for less than a week.

  11. Board of Directors and Ranking Characters: No BoD member may have any level one characters. Level one characters are time consuming to maintain, and being BoD is time consuming. All high-level ranks will be filled by non-BoDites.

  12. Candidates: Candidates must ALL BE SEARCHED. When we are ready to accept applications for candidacy, we will send out notifications. In the mean time, simply roleplay your character frequently. If you are chosen to be Searched, we will send out Searchriders at the appropriate time, NOT BEFORE. If you are Searched, you must then prove your worth as a Candidate at Cibryen Weyr. They may Impress… and they may not. In order to be considered for Search, you must have roleplayed your character regularly for AT LEAST one month prior to clutching. No exceptions. This does not guarantee Search, but is simply a minimum requirement. If you create a character after that date, then you'll have to wait until the next go-round. We will not be bending this rule.

  13. Posting Requirements: In order to maintain your membership at Cibryen Weyr, you MUST participate in at least two posts per month. These posts must be of decent size (At least 2 GOOD paragraphs). Sorry, no one-liners. Any IC posts, including posts intended to meet rank requirements, count toward this minimum. Only posts that include the proper tags in the subject line, and the proper signature block will be counted towards requirements. The only exceptions to this rule are people on LOA. If you fail for 2 months to fulfill your requirements, your persona will be placed as adoptable, transferred out, or killed off. For specific ranking requirements, visit the requirements page.

  14. Persona Disposal:  If you submit a persona, and it is approved but you do not join, we will simply delete that persona, since it never got roleplayed.  If you are an existing member, and decide to leave us (Like you'd want to do that) you have two months to tell us what you want done with your personae.  If you do wish to notify us within that time, it must be via an official email to the BoD's official email address, board@cibryen.com not by AIM or through someone else. It has to come from you, and explicitly state what is to be done with each character. We will notify you that we have recieved your request, and will honor it. If we don't respond quickly, email us again just in case it was lost in email nevernever land.  If you don't, will dispose of that character ourselves.  Characters you have adopted will be returned to adoptable status. Characters who have been roleplayed can't simply just disappear...they must either transfer out or die.

  15. Number of Personae: New members are allowed to have up to four personae at Cibryen Weyr.  The BoD reserves the right to ask you to NPC a persona or deny you more personae if they feel like you have too many for you to handle. You will be allowed to play them later, when the BoD feels you can handle it.  This probationary period lasts for 3 months, or until mentorship ends, whichever is longer. After this time period you can create as many as you like...but keep in mind you're expected to play them, and meet the requirements for them.  Don't just create them because you can.

  16. Mentorship: We have established a mentor program to help new members settle in. All new members will be assigned a mentor, and will be placed on moderated status. Their posts must be approved by their mentor before they will be posted to the list.

  17. Posing: DO NOT use other people's personae without their permission. You may approach someone else's persona, or speak to them, but don't assume anything. This includes small, inocuous actions. In the MUSHs and MOOs and such, its called "posing" No saying, "Jeffrey placed a hand on her cheek tenderly" if Jeffrey isn't your persona. UNLESS you have explicit permission from the persona's owner, of course. This rule applies in ALL situations, to ALL characters, and ALL dragons or pets.

  18. Searchriders: Because they are special character, but not exactly an all-the-time rank, Searchriders are limited to one per player. Search dragons may be blue, green, and very rarely, brown. No bronze or golds may be Search dragons. All Searches must be approved by the BoD (no Searching people just because you wanna. ;) ) and will occur at the appropriate time.

  19. RP Threads: Never assume that you can simply jump on any thread uninvited. If the thread is occuring in a public place, that's one thing, but any time a thread is occuring in a private room, behind closed doors, or in an office (you get the idea) always ask the participants if you can jump in. It's polite, and will keep you from accidentally ruining a plot. If the subject of a thread changes drastically from the original thread, please change the subject line and start a new thread.

  20. About NPCS: An NPC is very, VERY rarely used, only to add meat to stories. In other words, an NPC you have won't be seen very often. NPCs may NOT be metallic. No bronze or gold NPCs, and stay away from having metallics as relatives. NO goldriders as relatives. NPCs are not people you mention your sheet, but special characters who interact and RP. You don't need to create NPC sheets for everyone you mention.

  21. Firelizards: No new personae may have firelizards. All firelizards are expected to be named and roleplayed, or it will go "wild" and you will lose it. If you would like to have a firelizard, you must earn it. For more on firelizards, visit the firelizard page. All firelizard owners are expected to read this document, and be familiar with the rules, or your firelizard will go wild.

  22. Pets: We restrict the pets any given persona may have. No fairs of firelizards, no packs of dogs, no litters of cats. Absolutely NO ferrets. Pernese view animals as practical partners that serve a practical purpose. Most Pernese just don't have the time or resources to care for an animal. You can't simply run to the convenient store for cat food, after all. Dragonriders will be especially limited on the amounts and types of pets they may have because of the unique nature of their living arrangements and schedules. It's not fair to lock a cat in a high weyr with no ground access for long periods of time. NO dogs in high level weyrs, period. All animals are of a practical nature...the Ancients had no reason to breed impractical animals. Felines, canines, and runners are the extent of available pets. If you'd like a different kind of pet, contact the BoD and we will consider it. No poodles, no persians. The majority of felines on Pern are actually tabbies, although there are probably other types available. The best policy with pets is to ASK first. Think before you stick a runner on there. How will you feed it? How will you care for it? How will you find time for it with your other duties? ALL pets must be roleplayed, or you will not be allowed to have them.

  23. HADs: At this time there are no openings for new HADs (hear all dragons).

  24. Disputes: Any member disputes must be brought to the attention of the BoD. We can't fix a problem if we don't know there is one.

  25. Gold and bronze dragons: Any new gold or bronze dragons MUST be earned. For a gold or bronze, you must be active ICly, and OOCly, and we don't even consider you if you can't roleplay very well.  Be your best. We don't award golds to just anybody. You have to EARN them. Goldriders must be heterosexual females, Bronzeriders must be heterosexual males. New members (still in probation or under mentorship) may not have metallics.

  26. To prove you've read these rules, just add "If Keanu Reeves can act, so can I" to the top of your persona sheet. If it's not there, you'll be asked to re-read the rules.

  27. Mature browns, blues, and greens may be made at any time. We ALWAYS need those. Any gender, any sexual orientation, the older the rider the better.

  28. Roleplay rating: No graphic violence or sex. Such RPs are fine in private, but do not send them to the public email list. The BoD reserves the right to determine what might be considered excessive or offensive. Explicit RPs may be sent to the flights list, a private list you must be 18 to subscribe to.

  29. Signature Blocks: In order to more easily count posts for requirements, all posts to Cibryen's list must have similarly formatted signature blocks. Posts which do not include properly formatted signature blocks will NOT be counted. This requirement will be mandatory beginning May 1, 2007.

    Format signatures as follows:

    First Writer's name
    - Character 1 (dragon/rank - optional)
    - Character 2 (dragon/rank - optional)

    Second Writer's name (if copost)
    - Character 1 (dragon/rank - optional)
    - Character 2 (dragon/rank - optional)
    -----
*quote or other bit of your choice, MAXIMUM 2 lines (~160 characters)(optional)*

  30. Whew! Now that that's out of the way, we hope to hear from you. Join in the excitement, intrigue and fun at Cibryen Weyr!
